Here's for our monthly (?) dose of unusual automotive sub-cultures: the culmination of the 2010 Korean RC Street Drift Challenge. Car control, on the square millimeter. Literally.
For sure a milestone in social networking 'multiplied by' guerilla marketing: the brand from Zuffenhausen celebrates its 1.000.000th Facebook fan online. To memorize the fact, the 1.0MM names were plastered all over this hybrid 911, which can be admired at the Porsche museum in Germany.
Good luck finding your name back - a truly tantalizing task - as there seems to be no other way than by investing loads of time into scanning the surface of this Porker. Loads of what could have been social quality time...
On the other hand, the Porsche initiative remains a nice gesture towards its online fan community and, above all, an interesting piece of web advertising. (The current owner of HF-LR-63 is somewhere on there too - but where?)
Like every year, I must admit that I haven't come round to watch more than two races of the Formula One season - the first and the last.
Each of these has its own kicks: the new lineup of drivers and cars, once again adjusted rules to the game, new teams and team liveries, and of course the thrill of the eagerly awaited new start: who will put his mark on the new season..?
But soon, this is to be followed by a row of excuses not to watch and, fairly, a plain lack of interest. Despite the lingering feeling that somehow all of it was artificially staged again, every year tends to culminate in a 'surprising' ending - which makes at least the season's last race a must-see; if there is one between the lot, this is the one. But frankly, for the rest of the year, all of those races in between... one tends to get more kicks per minute out of a Playstation than by watching any average Formula One race live on TV.
Having said that...
It is hard to ignore the wonderful glitz and spectacle that is the F1 circus. And, of course, the attraction is still magical.
Therefore, there's still a spark in me that just wants to believe Mr. Cool when he sums it all up: 'F1 baby, this is where it all happens.' Here's an awesome vid to prove his staement.
And I hereby solemny vow to make an effort to watch all season again, next year. Starting with the first race.

(And Gerard, you may as well add this one to the GFOS Track List)
A classical battle with yet another contemporary interpretation: the adrenaline pulsates almost audibly in the valleys of Seacrest County, as good chases bad in the teaser for that other great race game. (Yes, also 'out now'.)
